First I need to thank Andrew in good old Austin, TX for making this possible. He sent me three Chubby 2's to try to see which I preferred. A Best Badger, a 2-Band Super Badger, and a Manchurian Badger. So, here is my opinion on the three. Remember, this is just my lowly opinion, there are far better experts out there than me. Also let me preface this by saying I strictly bowl/scuttle lather.

Best Badger:

This brush was very soft and made tremendous lather with no effort at all. There were two thing about this brush that I do not prefer, 1) it is to large for my face and 2) it splayed a little more than I like. You cannot deny the quality of this brush. Like the other two, I just enjoyed holding it in my hands and admiring it.

2-Band Super Badger:

Everything I said about the Best Badger above holds true for this brush expect for two things. 1) The tips are much softer than the Best Badger and 2) there was very little splay. I will say, this was my favorite of the three and if I were going to shell out the money for a premium brush, this would be the one.

Manchurian Badger:

I really don't know what to say other than I really like this brush. If you ever get a chance to try a Simpsons Manchurian Brush, you should do so. I only have one complaint about this brush, I cannot afford one.

I really like their new 2 band hair.

I have a Somerset CH2 in best. Love that too. I think its today's super or a slight step below as it has a little scritch.

I own all 3 versions of the Chubby 2 - but I face lather exclusively.

I still need to use my Best and Manchurian a little bit more before i can attest to Johnny's review - but thanks for the effort, Johnny Smile

CH, I think you need to add a CH2 in super 3 band. That way we can get a truly complete picture. Biggrin

2-Band Super Badger:

if I were going to shell out the money for a premium brush, this would be the one. I did. And do not regret it for a moment.

Manchurian Badger:
Though I've not uses a Manchurian Chubby, I currently have a Manchurian Hive. While its a satisfying brush, it won't displace a two band in my den.

Of the three, the Chubby Two Band is my favorite. But, full disclosure, I'm a two band fan.

Great review and pictures, it was kind of him to loan you those gorgeous Chubby's.

My favorite "version" of the Chubby is three band Super, although most seem to prefer the two band Super.

Thank you for the useful review and good pictures. I have the Chubby 2 and 3 in Super 3 band, of which I prefer the Chubby 2. Reading all these threads makes me think I should try the 2 band and Manchurian.

Nice write up, Johnny. I have not loaned you my CH2 in 3-band Super, but based on what you have said, you would like it, but not as much as the 2-banders. It splays even more than the Best and feels bigger on the face.

The 2-band CH2 really is an extraordinary brush. I bought one for my father, and the knot has a slightly taller loft, is less bulb shaped, and is not as densely packed as mine. See photos below. Neither of these brushes are of the latest (and apparently greatest) batch of 2-band hair. I don't think you can go wrong with a new one.

By the way, thanks for helping to break in the Manchurian. I have been exclusively using my Polo 10 Manchurian for the last two weeks, and the knot has broken in a little and improved. It didn't need to improve, by the way. I just consider this a bonus. That CH2 no doubt will continue to improve with some use - by improve, I mean a little better flow (already good) and slightly softer tips (some may disagree that this is an improvement).

2-band CH2s:

Just for fun:

Johnny, you say the 2-band badger is your favorite of the three, then you say the only complaint you have about the manchurian is the price. If price was no object would the 2-band badger still be your favorite?

I'll never afford / buy / get to use a manchurian, but I am just wondering if your rating of the 2-band as highest is because of price.

For me, the 2-band was the better brush regardless of price. I would rank the Manchurian above best and 3-band badger, for my use.

If you have never used a Chubby 2 2-band super badger, you owe it to yourself to try one some how. Just a fantastic brush.
