SBAD always has me pondering the next purchase, I have been considering a Chubby 3 manchurian but two things have me second guessing...

1) $$$
2) scritch?

I enjoy Simpson's three band super (my favorite hair grade in general) and find best badger very scritchy, apparently I have a sensitive face compared with others. I have heard the term "scritch" associated with the Manchurian hair grade. Manchurian owners, what are your thoughts on the face feel of this hair in the dense Chubby's? Does this hair grade have any bloom as compared to standard two band? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/insight you might share. Jeremy-

I own the Chubby 2 Manchurian Butterscotch. To me the hair is softer than Shavemac D01 2-Band, but also less backbone - circa on par with Semogue 2-Band Mele Mele, a bit softer - very solid backbone and mine is fan shaped but splays a tiny bit less than my Chubby 2 Best (which is surprisingly soft for a Best Hair brush)

I enjoy my Manchurian and will buy a Chubby 3 Manchurian Butterscotch as soon as Mark makes it after the Christmas sale production. Also own a Duke 3 Manchurian Butterscotch, which also is very nice

But since your face is sensitive, I'm not so sure Manchurian is for you to be honest.......don't get me wrong, it's not super scritchy, but not ultra soft either.

Get Simpson 2-Band instead is my advice if you want ÜBER SOFT tips with nice backbone and little splay.

well, after several uses now, I can seriously say that the Chubby 3 Manchurian is my fave brush.... amazing backbone and 'presence'... dense, soft and springy with an occasional hint of scritch, an absolute pleasure to use...my skin can also suffer the wrath of my Duke 3 Best, so I know what you mean on that front, but they are worlds apart...TBH if I had the funds, I'd buy another Chubby 3 Manchurian in a heartbeat... yep, really!!

"Manchurian softer than D01 2 band" Agreed with Claus.

I consider it scrubby, not scritchy or scratchy. I know it's like describing wine or scotch....

The thing I can tell you about wine and scotch from experience is, don't mix them. Sad

Jeremy, Jeremy, let's have a sobering moment! The Chubby 3 Manchurian is £249.95. That converts to a whopping $397.97 before shipping and conversion costs.Shok

Is soft and scrubby worth $400+ for a shaving brush? Best!

I know, I know. I am a sick human being. I even told the wife I was done buying new brushes for now. I.......can't.......stop......

After searching the Simpson's site more, the T-3 butterscotch in Manchurian would also be a great choice to try out the hair grade. Much less money, smaller brush but the less dense knot would equate to less perceived scritch (if any) for my discerning taste in soft tipped brushes.

Don't mix wine and any other alcohol IME. Ugh.

@Cessna,
So, do you want me to enable you or discourage you? Biggrin

Enabling is fine with me, I expect nothing less from my fellow shaving buddies.

Ok, you asked for it.

Manchurian hair is like nothing else currently on the market. The closest used to be M&F Blonde Badger 2 band, but still no exact match. The current production closest is Shavemac D01, but the Manchurian is softer and more thoroughly scrubby.

It may be similar to black badger, but Manchurian is soft on the tips. Black badger is kind of prickly.

So, like I said, like nothing else currently on the market. Many hairs are similar, but no one has yet matched it.

Enabled.

If that is not convincing enough, I don't know what is. I find myself really curious to try Manchurian, now to decide on which brush and when to buy.... Huh

You asked for it! Cool

I'd get a Chubby. I think they sink the knot deeper.

For sure. A CH3 or a 2 would be phenominal. I must admit though, the price is what makes it a really tough decision. I don't mind paying for luxury, but $400 bucks is a good amount to spend on a shaving brush. I will continue to research and drool.

Or you could rationalize it by thinking it will curb future brush purchases. There aren't many brushes bigger, badder or more costly than a CH3 Manchurian.

If you really want to drop that $400 Classic Shaving still has M&F Stubby large that had been "unofficially" confirmed to have Rooney Finest hair. It looks to be about the same dimensions as a Chubby 3 but with that might never be seen again.

I've actually been wrestling with myself all day on whether to pull the trigger.

Yeah, that's finest all right. I'd buy that one if you wanted to drop $400 on a brush.

@Tom,
You and I both know that's not true.... Biggrin It just throws fuel on the fire.

True most of the time, my friend. I would look into the Finest option that has been brought to attention.

I would contact Lee Sabini and verify with him on whether any Finest is remaining. For that kind of money, trust but verify!
