I wish I would have found this before wrecking a couple of handles.

Nice Rob! Is that a Plissoft handle? And what size and kind of knot is that?

Sure is, good eyeSmile The knot is an Ace 24mm two band. I had one of these knots in my Elite Razors M7 style, and absolutely loved it. Tons of scrub & backbone but no scritch. Bob at Elite was kind enough to sell me a knot by itself and that left me looking for a 24mm handle. The Plissoft seemed like the perfect donor so I ordered one up. With Tieste's steam suggestions, pulling the Plissoft knot was a breeze!

I used the steam method I found here at TSN to remove the synthetic knot from one of my Bufflehead brushes. I then installed a Nathan Clark Envy White Supreme knot, which ended up being set at 31x55-56. This has quickly become one of my favorite brushes with its super luxurious face feel and perfect backbone.
This project was super fun and I ended up with a custom brush that I adore.

Curious if anyone has an opinion on the use of Simichrome Polish (which I have) vs Flitz (which I'd have to buy) to polish and buff a vintage brush handle to shiny, like-new brilliance?

Thanks, all!

One more for the zombie thread.

Just steamed a Pure knot from a shavemac.  Love the hair, but at 23/50mm it's to floppy IMO.  Been using it o-ringed to 44.9mm, love it.

Only shed one hair since steamed apart, I'm going to let it dry and cool for a day or so to see if the knot is stable then bore and reset at 45mm with RTV.

Thank you for posting the How To!
