I have one of these available: http://www.theportugalonlineshop.com/cla...d=estremoz $50. Yeah I know the price seems high, but shipping actually costs more than the item itself due to weight. I bought it from slantman who paid $75 including shipping. Shipping with tracking will cost $17 alone. I like it a lot, nice deep ridges and the two piece design is awesome, it's just that I have 6 bowls / scuttles already and this thing is large.

If I wanted to keep just one bowl this would probably be it as with it being a 2 piece design it can be used as a bowl or scuttle. It also has a large water reservoir so lather stays hot for ages.

Check out Robert Becker at Roberts Feats of Clay. He makes really nice, I'd call them entry level scuttles at a great price, and he's a great guy to work with if you have questions or customizations. I think his biggest scuttle costs $26 and like I said, they are very nice. Not hand thrown heavy clay, but cast pottery.

Here's the link: http://www.robertsfeatsofclay.com/cscuttles.html

I will second this suggestion. I have a large Becker that was my very first scuttle, and although it is not as elegant nor quite as efficient as some of the others I've gotten since then (Dirty Bird, Moss, Straight Razor Designs, Georgetown), it still does its job, and I like it.

I've got a DB 1.5, you'll love it. My recommendation is to to just order a new one exactly how you want it.

what he said. after shipping etc, you are better off buying one direct and getting exactly what you want.

you don't see many DB scuttle on the BST and there is a reason for that....they are that darn good Wink

I placed an order for the original DB with Julie and she emailed saying I'll probably get it in January sometime. Long wait, but this is what ordering from an artisan vs. Walmart is. I will wait. In the meantime, I really love the Geaorgetown Potter G5 in Hamada glaze. What a beauty! I may order one of those also and compare/contrast. I am sure I'll be able to sell the one I like less. I am really looking for more of a brush scuttle with a bowl. Hence the interest in smaller models like a DB original and G5.

Good luck, A28 on trying to find one here. I think we are in for the wait...

Yes, that only makes it sweeter when we do get it. Actually I have looked at Georgetown Pottery scuttles and the G5 looks amazing! Thanks to this thread I discovered it. They also state that there is a 2-3 week lead time on shaving pottery, but it is shorter than the DB and frankly, I kind of like the G5 better, especially in that Hamada glaze. I may order one of those. and perhaps cancel the DB order...

Yes, DB has the hand thrown look and it's wonderful. The GP has more of a mass-produced look, but it seems to also be hand made. Just a different look. I really like them both. Just thinking that the GP might arrive sooner...
