I have an Everready brush I'm considering replacing with a boar knot (right now it has a whipped dog that's too floppy for me). Are the Boar knots on TGN good or would I be better served buying a Semogue, removing the knot and placing it in there?

Those are boar knots from dissected Omega brushes, so yes, they're good...

Thank you Aaron. I knew I'd read something about a site offering Omega knots. Now banded or unbanded is the next question.

Banded, although we can't prove they're really any different; it seems I have had the best luck with the banded, and so have others...

The Omega boar knots seems the way to go , my friend.

Regarding the banded or non banded , I will go for the banded one : however , the Omega 48 PRO has non banded hair and feels extra soft on the tips.

Omega Boar is quite nice. I prefer the natural (un-banded) look.

I recently put a 20mm TGN boar into an Oscar11 handle and set the loft higher than I would have liked, 52mm, but it's a very nice brush. It just wouldn't have looked right set lower. Where it's set it has all kinds of backbone and I haven't regretted setting it to that height at all. It's more along the lines of a Vulfix or Rooney boar rather than a Semogue or Omega. My UK boars have less bloom, the Semogues and Omega more.

It's a nice knot, but if you want a Semogue or Omega"ish" knot, mine isn't one. It's tighter. No "wild" hairs hanging out the sides begging to be trimmed either.

My vote is for unbanded. It's boar, there's no hiding it, let it stand out from your badger brushes!

Curious to know if there is a difference between the TGN banded boars they offer. One has a plastic collar so I think it is Omega and the other does not. Any idea?

Dave, TGN sells two types of Omega knots. Omega ones which are encased in a plastic bucket and are preset and some other ones that come the same way as badger knots. The Omega knots are fantastic! I've made 4 brushes with them so far (I used the 22mm/50mm Omega knot on all four brushes) and they are all super-good. You will not go wrong with those. I prefer un-banded.
