Love the way this razor looks (love Rose Gold) but have never used a modern DE. I only have vintage Gillette's. I have no idea if one is better than another. So in short is the Rose Gold R-89 worth the $72.00 price tag. Would love to hear from people who have one.

I think the Muhle in rose gold is beautiful but have never figured out where to get one. The Muhle generally has superior plating. I have a chrome R89 and it is, in my view, one of the better modern razors.

I have both old and new. My 2 favorite razors were born more than 50 years apart. There is nothing to dislike about a good modern razor.

R89 is a popular razor.

They just got the R89 and the R41 in Rose Gold at West Coast Shaving.

They are certainly pretty!

Allow me to make a "sensible" suggestion Biggrin

Get a DE89 from Edwin Jagger and put it through its paces. It's the same razor essentially, and since you've never used anything like it, it will give you a good idea how it works for you at half the price.

And if you fall in love with it, which is a real possibility, you will want to treat yourself with the pretty Muhle!

I had considered this as well, unfortunately the rose gold is a LE and wont be available much longer. Or I guess just buy it and if I don't like I could just put it on the B/S/T. Decisions suck. Maybe a better question, is the R-89 more or less aggressive than a Gillette Super speed? I'm hoping a little more.

That is a tough choice! And I'm the same way.

I would say, obligatory ymmv here, that it is a bit more aggressive. But as it is such a smooth, comfortable shaver I think a better descriptor would be efficient.

Thanks John that helps.

Worth every penny in my humble opinion.

The rose gold is immaculate and is beautiful.
As with all Muhles, craftsmanship is top notch.

I have both the R89 and the R41 in rose gold and enjoy every minute with them.

Get them while you can, as I thought these were gone already!

I suggest buying the R89. I have the chrome version (not the rose gold) and it is, for me, the best razor I own. By way of comparison, know that I also own three vintage Gillettes: a Super Speed, a President, and a British Rocket. The R89 build quality is top notch.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever!

And that joy may well outlast the regret in not obtaining one!

While I was thinking about it was wondering if any guys out there actually preferred R-41 over the R-89?

IMHO no, they are not worth it. They are made of Zamac and once the plating is compromised, it will corrode.
At that price point you can get a stainless steel Weber.

Patrick, if you like the aesthetics of the R89, then get it as it is a fine shaver. For me, i would have to agree with Galhatz that a Weber would be a better buy and it is slightly a better shaver, for me. Good luck.

The R89 is a great shaver. Rose gold is unique and hard to find. I say go for it! If I didn't already have a R89 and R41 I'd be all over these.
