And I could have titled this thread , "the scent of the British Empire"...

1805 was the year when Lord Nelson won the battle of Trafalgar and also when William Francis Truefitt opened his first barbershop , before he moved up to London's West End part. So we can see how importan was that year for the British empire , and for us , wet shavers. Biggrin

This scent is my second favorite one from T&H , after the lavender one , and I prefer it over Grafton or Trafalgar , which are also very nice creams/scents , but 1805 is better for my nose/senses.

As you can read by its ingredients , it contains parabens , and has the formulation based that many Creightons shaving creams have , so nothing new to report here.I have read that T&H will be the next brand joining the non parabens trend , but it seems its not the case.

This cream comes in a 190g black tub and also in a 75 ml tube. The 75 ml tube is perfect to travel , but I got the tub instead.I tub like this could last several months (over 5 I will say) of regular use. This pot contains more shaving cream than the Taylor of Old Bond Street or D.R. Harris creams , and basically the same amount than the Geo F Trumper ones (200ml).Of course , the price of the Truefitt and Hill is much higher too , specially compared it with the TOBS creams.

The cream is very dense , thick something that makes it different with most other UK shaving creams.I will say that this is basically an Italian "croap" more than a UK shaving cream.

Also you dont have a lot of cream to make tons and tons of lather , which makes it very economical , since , as I pointed earlier , the tub could last you over 5 months of regular use.

Here is a pic of the lather I did made with it using a shavemac finest brush :

As a good shaving cream , this one provides a lot of slickness during the shave , but I find that the complex scent T&H creams (Grafton , Trafalgar and this one) leave my skin drier than the "regular" scent ones , like the Lavender , Roses , Limes etc.I also use a pre shave oil , to avoid that skin drieness. My skin is very dry too , I have to admit.

Its scent is also the best thing from this cream : I know Im a little bit crazy , but first time that I "sniffed it" I thought about India and a Rudyard Kipling novel...Does this cream has spicy/warm notes ? Yes , some notes of sandalwood and nutmeg , but I cant distinguish them at all , to be honest. It smells very fresh , a combination of citrus and herbal notes , with some flowers and aquatic notes , but it reminds me of India for some odd reason.
Its a clean , fresh scent , perfect for spring/summer , hot days.It really cheers me up to smell it , what else can I say?

The price of the cream is not cheap : the tub cost 30 dollars at T&H USA but it can be found at other places , like Plum Market , for 23 dollars.

Great review Teiste. I'm with you on this being one of my favorite scents. Very complex, but just downright good. The price can be a bit of a factor when purchasing it, and I bought my pot used, but I think I will be purchasing a full tub once I run out.

However this is the older 5.8oz jar as opposed to the 6.7oz jar that is $30. Still a bit cheaper per oz though.

My friend , is the 6.7 oz tub : another friend of mine , who told me about the Plum Market offer , received both the Grafton and the 1805.

Good to see you back , Aaron !

I have only used the sandalwood so far, but love the performance. Will be looking forward to picking up a new scent or two.

Do you mean Grafton ? Grafton is the opposite : is a deep woody scent mixed with some herbal notes , more suitable for cold days.Skin care wise , both perform the same.

An excellent review, Teiste. I bought this cream earlier in the year and the scent was amazing. I am predominantly a soap user and was hoping for good things to emerge when I learned an 1805 soap was coming. Alas, it wasn't to be with their latest formulation.

Great review as always, Teiste Cool

What can I say, the 1805 scent is loved by many, but a flowery thick jasmine note in it makes me sick and almost gag from using this cream Confused Blush

I use either Grafton or Trafalgar, when I want my TF&H scent cream fix, and either Rose or Ultimate when I want pure performance from my TF&H Smile

Love your pics as always, Teiste and your reference to movies, books and cultural personalities, like Kipling !!

Yes , my friend , the soap lather it seems not to be as good as the lather you can make from the cream.I have a Spanish friend who has the new 1805 soap and have told me that he can make lather , but not as thick or dense as with the cream.

Kind Regards , my friend !

Interesting , Claus. Im sorry you dont like it , but Trafalgar and Grafton are also wonderful scents , as well as good shaving creams.

I might be crazy , but sometimes while using a cream or a soap , its scent could reminds me of a song , movie , personal experienced and so on , but most of the times are movies that I can think of , like when I use some of the Italian "croaps".Ah "La Dolce Vita" ! Biggrin

Take Care , my football brother.

1805 is one of my favorite scents. Too bad it is not my favorite cream as far as performance goes. Doesn't protect my face as much as others do.

1805 is my favorite T&H scent. $30 less the 15% SNOOK discount @ truefittandhill.com is $25.50 for the 6.7 ounce pot.

Ah, nevermind then, they must just be using an old photo. I think T&H increased the size of their jars maybe last year. And I haven't gone anywhere, guess I just don't post too frequently in general.

It's been some time since I explored the cologne scent based creams and this one seems like a good place to start.

This is an outstanding cream. The only T and H I have mind you. To me the scent of this cream is very oceanic with a cool breeze. The best way I can describe it. The after shave balm is just as good.

The 1805 is my overall favorite with the ASB and the cologne for shirt and tie affairs, but I tend to use Rose and Lavender to start my day in a "summer garden."
