The brush in the Target Vdh set is boar, not badger. I know that it is virtually the same packaging as their luxury set , but the brush is boar. IMHO, this boar brush is much better than their normal boar brush. Also the handle on this boar brush is not the same quality as the handle on their luxury badger brush. Still, it is a great shave set for $20.

C'mon... I wish I had that set sold over here! The apothecary mug alone is worth the price, everything else is a bonus! W00t

Gentlemen, I bought this set recently for a wet shaving newbie friend. The set comes with boar brush, razor and brush stand, soap and apothecary mug. It's a good starter set for the price.

I bought this set and I have to say, I love the set. The apothecary mug alone was worth it as others have said. What surprised me was how nice the soap actually was. Good lather and smells pretty nice. The set helped me get into this new hobby actually.

I got my set from Walgreen's. It included a badger brush, not a boar one. The brush is actually not bad. I believe it is 'Pure Badger' and it is a little scritchy. The knot is 22mm and the loft is 55mm. It doesn't feel floppy to me, even with its high loft. The only bad part about the brush, was its smell. It smelled worse than any brush I've ever owned. It took quite a bit of effort to get rid of the smell. I eventually bought a spray bottle of 'Wahl Odor Neutralizer' from Target - found in the pet section, and after a couple of treatments, the smell was gone.
I'm going to buy another set just for the mug alone. Don't know what I'll do with a second smelly brush Huh
Here's a picture of the set. The 4th item, the puck of soap, is in the mug Smile

How much was Awalmart charging. I got mine on Amazon for $25 but it has gone up a couple of dollars since then. Missed the Target deal. Like others have said, the mug alone is worth the cost. Much thicker than the Muhle and EJ mugs.

I got mine at Walgreens, not Walmart or Target, for $30.00. Not a bad price considering the fact that apothecary mugs usually cost that much all by themselves, with nothing else included. With my set I got a not-too-bad badger brush, a stand that holds a razor and a brush, a puck of their Luxury Scented Soap, and the mug.
When I get around to it, I'm going back to the same Walgreens and picking up another set, just for the mug alone. When I do, I'll be glad to pass along the brush to anybody who happens to need one.
