This brush sold today on eBay for over $100. Now admittedly that's a great price for a Somerset Chubby 3 Super, which have sold on the forums for $175-250. But look how ratty the hair is. The seller admits that it sheds. I would never buy a brush with hair that awful, no matter how low the price. I can't believe Simpson originally made a brush with such terrible hair, but I can't understand what you could possibly do, in normal use, to abuse a brush so badly.

Perhaps the buyer just really likes the old Simpson handles and plans to reknot it and use it.... Or maybe they plan to reknot it and then sell it fraudulently, as an original Somerset. Thoughts?

I bid on it as a candidate for a reknot. My maximum bid was $30 and I definitely didn't plan on winning. LOL

The Simpson sticker seems to add a serious premium on the Bay, people just seem to dig deep.

I wonder if someone tired to clean or sterilize it with chemical, heat or combination of both.

I'm betting someone used it to clean their grill.

It does not appear to have the tell tale "crater" in the knot from daily abuse, but the hair does look to be pretty shabby. I have seen some old Somerset brushes that's knot looks similar, but not this bad.

On a positive note, that handle is quite the looker!
