I really like my EJ DE89L and it's my favorite shaver. I like the look of the Muhle razors but I'm confused about the heads. Are the R89, R101, R102, R106, and R107 the same heads as the EJ DE89?

The Muhles and EJs are the same some say the platings better on the Muhles. The R101 is an Open Comb same as R41.

Mühle makes the heads for EJ, so yes the 89s are the same.

Over at SRP they did an interview with Neil Jagger, the principal of EJ. You can find it under "Obie's Conversations." Here you'll find the definitive discussion on the EJ/Muhle heads. They are the same head. Both companies shared the cost of research, development and initial machining. However, although the heads are identical, each company builds their own.

Personally, I find the 89s a bit on the mild side. Never used the R41 though. Sound like hell to me. Lots of scary reviews. Mind you, if I was going to get and use one, I'd go the whole hog and get the Grande. Thoughts, anyone?

I have both the R89 and the R89 Grande. The difference is minor, a slightly longer, heavier and thicker handle on the Grande. It really depends on your preference in handles as the head on both is the same. Personally, I prefer the Grande. I find it more comfortable to use.
