I haven't used an Artist Club or a Cobra Classic or anything similar, so I have no direct experience, just curiosity.

Is it possible to get a close shave with a blade like that? Or does the guard stop you at a Don Johnson-esque stubble?

Eric, the blades are quite sharp and they do provide a very close shave, especially, if you use them in the Feather Artist Club razors. They are just a bit less sharp than the other models.

Eric,

I use the Kai blades with guard in my Cobra Classic and I get 14 or more great shaves per blade.

there seem to be a lot of people who get great shaves with the guard blades so ....

For me personally they can't compare with the other types like the pro, super pro or the kai mild, these give me better shaves.

When I had my Cobra I used Feather Pros & Kai blades without the guards both worked perfectly. Never tried any with the guards but they do cost more and you get less blades. If you are not sure get a pack of each.

I really enjoy using the Proguard blades. Can get a BBS shave in 2 passes, without worrying about cuts or burns. Great blades.

I have just started to play around with a CJB Kamisori and am using Kai Mild blades without any injuries nor much irritation. I was nervous about the blade sharpness but it is no worse than my Weck with Personna blades or any of the blades I have tried in my half blade shavette.

How many shaves do y'all comfortably get with the Feather Pros? I just bought a Cobra Classic, and found that the Feather Pro razor that was included was sharp as hell for the first use, and "softened" over the next use, and by the third and fourth use, the dropoff was noticeable (for my face, at least). Today was my fourth daily use of the razor, and I tossed it after the shave.

I typically use a Feather Pro blade for 7 days/shaves and then change, although if I'm being stingy, they can last >10 days/shaves with decent performance and only minimal decriment in terms of sharpness. This is in contrast to most DE blades lasting only 3-4 days/shaves for me.

Keep in mind, that there can be 'dud' blades in some boxes that somehow make it past quality control, thankfully this doesn't happen very often. If you have a nasty or rough shave on day/shave 1 ... consider this possibility and switch out immediately.

A pro blade gets used for 7 face and 7 head shaves here and at the end of the week I use it to shave the wife's legs. Could get a few more shaves out of it but I don't bother. There was a time that I stropped the blades and could get them going for more then a month.

But your experience is about normal, when I first used them I got about 4 to 5 shaves out of a blade, it gets better once you got the technique down.

I just started shaving with a Cobra and am curious about the Kai blades compared to the Feather Pro. Anyone with experience using both Kai and Feather blades? I would appreciate any feedback you have.

I just binned a Feather Pro today after 18 shaves. The one before that went 19. The one before that 14. So yeah, 51 shaves from 3 blades ain't to shabby.

Right now I am using the Feather ProGuard in my Artist Club SS and get a really close two pass shave with it. About 5-6 shaves on a blade. I'm going to try the Feather Pro Blades next to compare.

Wow!! Are you doing anything special to prolong the blade's life between shaves?

Kai's seem smoother than the Feathers Pros but seem to cut a little less close but I have a coarse hard beard. I strop the Feathers on a straight razor strop and that helps to smooth the edge and now I prefer them over the Kais which was a surprise . I found the Feather Proguards smoother than the Kai's but against my beard they seem to dull quickly . I live in CA also, if you want a few Proguards and Kais to test I can mail you some just pm me.

I've used the Feather Pro Guards. They are sharp and adequately remove all growth. I find them slightly irritating compared to the Feather Pro, but the extra safety makes it a small price to pay. I want to try the Kai Guard, but have been unable to source them without ridiculous shipping costs. Comparing the non guard models the Kai is smooth, but the Feather is my preferred...

Not a thing. I leave the blade in until it doesn't shave well anymore.
