Guys

I have just taken a call from my mum to let me know about the passing of one of our old staff from Nimmer-Russell Feltham.
Although Russell spent most of his time making hairbrushes at Nimmer, he was one of the main shaving brush handle turners. He was also one of the two old Nimmer staff who worked under the Carter ownership at Ilminster.
Very sad news for our family. I grew up working with Russell and learnt the art of making hairbrushes from him. I have great memories of working with him during my school holidays, etc.
His funeral is in about 10 days time. My parents and I will be attending along with Marjorie the last staff member left from our time (apart from actual family members).
Sad day for me, but good memories to look back on.

Gary

That's terrible.

My condolences to you, your family and his family. Remember the good memories and not the loss if possible. Not to make light of it, but raise a glass to him and the good memories. Cheers. (I just did- really)

Thanks Johnny.

When chatting with mum a short while ago its nice reminiscing about things. Russell was, how can I put it, a real character! He always wore a hand knitted hat- every season of the year. His reason was to keep dust off his hair when turning- but he hardly had any! He would leave dust trails around the Mill, so it was easy to track him down if we were looking for him!
Great great memories of the two of us forming brush handles together-me, from an age of around 8 yrs old.

It's hard to qualify it now, but believe me when I say that we had some amazingly skilled people working for us who would make today's makers look like complete novices-Russell was one of the best.

Cheers mate! If you ever get chance it might be worth letting David Carter know, although Marjorie may have already made contact-not sure.

I will pass on your kind words fella. It's upset the hell out of me-he was part of our family as far as I'm concerned ( you know where I'm coming from).

Russell only leaves his brother behind-never married and no kids. And yeah the memories are many! Thanks though
