I'm so excited-- my first vintage razor arrived today! Biggrin

My camera is on the fritz so I'm using an image from the eBay auction (I hope this is okay) but I wanted to share my new purchase.

I am amazed at the condition this razor is in; it literally looks as nice as my six week old Merkur. It's a 1960 Gillette Ball End Tech and I absolutely cannot wait to use it in the morning!

The seller is Sealover811 and I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone razor shopping on eBay. His prices are fair, shipping is free, the razors are exactly as described, and he tosses in a free pack of blades to boot. Class act all the way.

I'm looking forward to hearing about how you like it. One of my first DE razors was a Tech, providing very good, gentle shaves.

NICE. I bid on one last week that was my birth razor but got beat at the last second by some scoundrelA6...lol... It was a mint F-2 and I was wondering if that was MY RAZOR, but it was a different vendor.... lol. I had a Fat Handled Tech from the 40's PIF'ed to me. I loved it but PIF'ed it to a noob I've been working on.. He loves it too. I think I hooked him with it.. Next vintage razor you get think about a Schick Krona. Absolutely great shavers. I have 4...lol I lend these out to noobs to hook em in. (Well 2 of them, The other 2 are MINE). Good luck with your Tech. Let us know how it shaves.

P.S. I got a mint Star DE on the way so it wasn't a bad day on the bay. I can't wait till it gets here so I can try it.

Funny you mention the Kronas: a buddy of mine has been listening to me talk about my new hobby and began digging around in some boxes and found the Krona that belonged to his dad and another Krona that belonged to his granddad. Brought them to work to show me and I really liked them. I think you're right-- I DO need to get one for myself! Wink

So I got to try my 1960 Tech for the first time this morning and I am amazed at how comfortable it is. I loaded it with a new Shark SS blade so I could compare it to my normal shave (Merkur 33C and Shark SS blade) and noticed it was much "quieter" and more comfortable. I will have to get used to it (and I mean that in a good way) but my typical three pass shave was super comfy this morning and I can't wait to take her for a spin again.

Good news! I think you'll find universal agreement on the Tech's ease of use. At one time, practically every adult male used one. Congrats again.

You and I are within days of each other as far as "Tech Discovery" and my experience is similar as well. I loaded my '59 with a Feather and got a very gentle, but complete shave. Three passes on the cheeks and two on the neck for a DFS/BBS shave.

Yup, the Tech is a nice mild razor. It can be made more aggressive with shims should you ever desire that.
