Hey all,

My name's Rob. This is my newbie check-in. I'm not new to wet-shaving (started before disposable cartridges hit the scene), but I confess to blindly and not very happily, using disposables for many years. Who knew of that classic wet-shaving was alive and well? I thought only barbers used brushes and all shave creams came in propellent dispenser cans. Didn't old-school shaving at home, die out years ago?

I never imagined there were shaving enthusiasts. Duh! ...and that I might become one of them. Anyway... After lurking here and other places I've jumped in face first and and wallet open.

With a few shaves under my belt I can tell my technique needs work, Smile but it's been fun and an interesting start. Consider me happy to join in here. I promise to do no harm (Lol), and maybe even contribute now and then. Smile

Rob

Welcome.

I personally would never have imagined that there was such a thing as shaving enthusiasts but now I somehow became one myself

Rob welcome! Many of us have also stumbled through the world of canned goo and multibladed monstrosities before finding shaving salvation. You are among friends (Edit: and enablers) here.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I purchased some start-up supplies, and got 'em in about a week ago. My first shave with a Merkur OC was a pleasure. I was careful with everything and got a nice BBS shave. A great experience. I was enthused (and still am).

Bought a 2nd OC razor (as an alternate), a mild one, so I read... Maybe my prep or technique wasn't as good this time around... and I cut the cr*p out of my face. (lol). I'm not really laughing... it wasn't that bad, just not what I'm used to, and not fun either.

Oh well, live & learn. It's all downhill from here. Like riding a bicycle. You never forget... but sometimes have to re-learn. Smile

It's great to have you in the Nook! Don't forget that we also enjoy the even older school razors of the single edge variety. They are so good that is second edge was deemed unnecessary. Winky

Welcome to The Shave Nook, Rob, and enjoy your stay. Smile

As for a razor that is supposed to be mild but isn't, yes that could be technique. However, sometimes a razor simply isn't right for a particular person so don't sweat it. You will get to know what works for you and what doesn't. Just have fun on the shaving journey. Wink
