So......

The only AD it seems I can succumb to is shaving brushes these days. After my last brush selloff, I have 3 spots remaining on my display shelf that holds 24 brushes.

I've decided another custom shavemac is on order. The knot is decided on as a D01 2-band flat top. I already have one D01 flat top (circa 2008 hair) that is a scrubby little sucker, but has the silkiest soft tips of any brush I've used. Specs are 24mm knot and 42mm loft (yeah scrubby).

I had a 28mm fan, that I ended up not liking more cause of the huge handle that I recently parted with. The knot was nice and scrubby with some scritch that my circa 2008 does not have.

Soooo.....
I've decided I need another flat top. The handle is decided on as the octagonal one. Style 173 from this link:

http://www.shavemac.com/products/Experts...ELECT.html

What I can't decide is the color. I've debating between imitation horn and brown/black.

Here is a brush I've seen with the imitation horn:

And here is one I've seen in the Brown/Black:

Neither of these examples are the 2-band, but you can see how beautiful the handles are. I can't decide on the color and am leaning brown/black to match the 2-band as ultimately I want to get a matching 3-band D01 and it looks kind of sexy in the imitation horn.

The other thing I'm deciding on is the knot size. I'm debating between a 25mm one with a 48mm loft or 50mm loft

or..

A 26mm one with a 50mm loft or 52 mm loft.

I want something sufficiently different than my little 24/42 I already own. I don't want to go larger than 26mm, cause of cost and also the flat top feels bigger on the face.

So, what say you nook? How should I go???

Thought it would be fun to get a poll going, though ultimately I have veto power Biggrin

Right now I'm leaning at a 26mm/50mm in brown/black, but that could change.

I would say both faux horn and brown-black are nice, but brown-black is among my personal fav in my 12 Shavemac Custom collection Cool

Here are two pics of my 2-Band D01 in brown-black handle model 102 :

You could also consider Blue Marble D01 2-Band, as I did with these Biggrin

generally i avoid anything imatation. as such - i would chose the blue marble handle that Klaus has - as it really does not imitate anything :-)

Can't help with the colors as none of them appeal to me. I have a 2band 25-46mm that I absolutely love. Traded a Simpson tulip 2 and a Classic 2 with melyus for this Shavemac, great deal for both. He couldn't live with the feel of this short a loft and I'm so happy with it. Good luck with your choice

I voted brown/black 25/50. I have some similar and love it.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately...) I hate the blue marble look. Kind of like I considered the imitation pearl and don't like that as well.

Seems the taller loft with each knot size is winning. I definitely want something different than my 24/42 which is the scrubbiest brush I own.

Hmmm...might be leaning more towards the 26/52 brown-black now.

I voted for 25/48 imitation horn. I have a 2-band 25/50 and feel that I should have the knot set 2 mm lower.

Yeah - I could see that

But...remember, I have a 24/42 and am looking for something a bit different. Do you feel you should have set the knot lower to get more backbone/scrub or some other reason?

I feel that it may be a little to much loft for me. I also have a 25/50 in D01 silvertip and would like to take that down to 46. I feel lather gets trapped in these two brushes sometimes. So, I'm hoping a shorter loft will help out. Although, today's shave with the regular D01 lathered 3P soap really well. So it might have been due to the fact that the knots needed to loosen up a bit to perform better.

Joe, how goes it? Fun thread.
Gotta go with the faux horn. I had a Shavemac with that material (different shape) and it's beautiful.
Since you want some variance from your 24mm, go for the 26 over the 25...
Knowing you like some scrub, it should be 50 instead of 52 loft.
Easy choice Tongue

I'd take a look at Geoff Anderson's Americana 3 Angel It's a beautiful handle and with a Shavemac D01 2 band it would take a permanent spot in your collection. For the knot size I would go the smaller option given the splay would be huge.
