I've just looked on a UK seller's site and it states that the AS-D1 has been Recently Discontinued and that a New Model is Out Soon.

Does anyone have any more information about this new model?

This is very interesting but not surprising news. The high end DE razor market has chenged considerably since the Feather AS-D1 was originally introduced. New entrants have raised the bar and Feather appears to be responding. I'll be interested to learn more details.

Lets hope it's either open comb or an open comb slant!

Jatai's website confirmed that the razor is being "remodeled for improvement." You can register to be notified when the new model is available.

I hope there isn't a huge difference (or price increase). I want to get a Feather some time this year, but if the current one is discontinued that shatters my hopes a bit as I'm sure prices will increase on the originals.

By adding an IKON base plate ..either SB or OC you are essentially "improving" the mild cutting of the Feather. At this time that adds only $37.50 + $5.00 shipping...the look and fit are so similar I wonder if they are working together (Ikon and Feather)...if you can,t beat them..join them sort of thing...there has been posts of these plates and I can testify that they fit perfectly...double sided,SB and OC.I have all three.Idea:yhoSadcheck out HAIRIZON SG..the official Feather distributor)

already signed up for the email alert. Wink

i'll wait for everyone else to buy, try, sell and get a discount come 2014...it happens with every single SS razor ever released, and this one will be no exception.

it's the reason the sabbatical is helpful. resist the initial urge to pre-order or be the 1st to have it in hand.

i sure hope they do NOT make it a slant or OC. stick with the basic Straight Bar, make it a bit more aggressive and perhaps go with a shorter handle to mix it up.

can't wait to see what they come up with.

Perhaps a more 'aggressive' or 'efficient' razor this time?

If it is a more aggressive razor (and can actually shave without one having to be double-jointed while giving the Freemason handshake with the other hand or something) I might even be a little bit kind. Sleepy

Hope this one actually will cut my whiskers in less than what the current model needed: 999999 passes to get a below average shave Biggrin

Problem for me is that after peoples opinion AS-D1 seems perfect choice for my sensitive skin/ strong hairs. Now comes tricky part buy AS-D1 when I have chance still or wait for new one?

If I buy "old" and "new" will be better I will kick myself and vice versa.

ehhh

"Sensitive skin / Strong hair ?
I'd forget the Feather and go for an aggressive / highly effective single edge razor and dial in your technique so you're shaving with fewer strokes & less pressure.

Jack, yes that's the question. My first thought was sell the AS-D1 asap. Then thinking about it for those that own the first generation (under the assumption one can afford a second Feather AS!) maybe they will pair together really well. AS-D1 as a daily gentle driver paired with a more aggressive cousin for days with more whisker growth. Looking forward to what they come up with there in Seki City.
