Win7 user here, both my work laptop and home pc. I've tried linux at home and while it is very nice it just didn't offer anything different from Windows, in fact some tasks were more difficult. Everything just works for Windows, not so much with linux. For instance iTunes is not linux friendly, and most games either. Sure, there are ways around this but you have to really work at it.

i use whatever is on the comp i am at. my laptop is run win7, my desktop is running osx, and my servers are running all sorts of linux or unix..
i see no great functional difference that can't be accomplished on any of those.. and the aesthetic is pretty weak on all of them IMHO.

I quickly realized after retirement there was no need to keep going through the Windows BS. I went Mac before Mac was cool and never looked back.
Just from an old fart,
i get the spinning beach ball all the time... it's kind of sad... i don't get the win BS outlook that mac buyers have. if t wan't for the mini form factor i'd have bought another win comp.

do you work in IT?
I used too. Was a sys admin and worked with Tru64 and Solaris. Now I just do that as a side job and help out nonprofits.

I figured you did when you mentioned BSD. not too many people use BSD or dabble with it much. I, myself, have never messed with BSD.
I need to get back into learning Cisco IOS. I was learning it for a while, left the class I was in because the deadline to take and pass the CCNA course before it rolled out it's new test that included wireless was a week after my class ended. most people know it's very rare that someone passes the CCNA test on the first go.
