Brushed metal, butterfly TTO, continuous adjustment and balanced ergonomics...

This is Merkur's Vision

And this is my review...

Despite the razor's overwhelming size,
it is the most comfortable tool I have ever held.
The contours align perfectly in my grasp
and the dramatic diameter of the handle feels so natural in hand.
Weight distribution is perfect.
The head neither feels too heavy or light
and the handle feels balanced regardless of where you grip it.
The bulk of the head is below the cutting edge
and is by no means cumbersome.
This giant among razors is a nimble navigator
but requires patience under the nose.
The Futur in comparison
made simpler work of the task of shaving this hard to reach area.

Loading is simple.
The TTO mechanism operates flawlessly and with the grace of a butterfly.
However, what Gillette managed in about 3 turns,
the Merkur requires more than double.
The continual adjustment provides an infinite range of possibilities
Just don't expect the V-I-S-I-O-N scale to accurately line up with the indicator.
Merkur explains this is a result of the uniqueness of each hand crafted razor
and the scale only serves as a reminder to the individual user of their own optimum blade exposure.

Maintenance is far from arduous.
Initially I was dissuaded from purchase on the basis of a regular maintenance schedule.
However, it's as challenging as taking apart a 3 piece razor!

The shave is as inspirational as the design.
My first use of the Vision, quite possibly provided the best shave I have ever had.
I set my blade exposure to about 3/4 open.
BBS in 2 extremely comfortable passes (WTG and ATG).
The razor glided across my face with astonishing efficiency.

I loved the Futur,
but somehow the Vision is even better!

Nice Review Ben. I don't want to have to buy a Vision but good reviews make it tempting.

Ben, nice report. Glad to hear your issues with the adjustment design didn't affect your opinion or the performance of its shave. Smile

Great review Ben, I am glad you love the vision. After reading your post yesterday comcerning the adjustment/alignment, I though for sure you were going to mail it back today.

Nice report and great photos Ben!
I owned a Vision once, but neglected to maintain it properly. I do recall it was well balanced but cumbersome around the nasal area.
Enjoy!

Although I'm not satisfied with the alignment, I can not fault the shave... It's a keeper!

The maintenance isn't difficult or time consuming so I'm sure to stay on top of it.

The Vision doesn't easily navigate under the nose like smaller more agile razors, but with a little augmentation to approach it gets the job done!

Ben, excellent review and pictures. That thing is huge next to that 1904. If you don't have one, get a Schick Injector for the nose area, there is none better for that job.

Your tempting me, but I think I have all the razors I need.

Hello Ben, glad too hear and read your reviews on the Vision, I think you are enjoying your shaves, early days but a great review.

Either it's just me, but the noise mine makes whilst shaving is very pleasant. When I hear this I know I have the right angle.... If that makes sense Enjoy

A wonderful review of a notable shaving razor.
The Vision, aesthetically, is not really my cup of tea, but your photos are awesome!

The Vision has gotten a lot of bad press on the forums, but it is one of my favorite razors. I have big hands and the handle feels completely natural in my hand. It is very well-balanced and doesn't feel as big as it looks, but it is definitely one of the heaviest razors around. It isn't as nimble or as easily maneuverable as smaller lighter razors, so I find myself taking it a bit more slowly when shaving with the Vision than with other razors.

Great pics, Ben! Wow, a better shaver than the Cobra? That is saying much! Enjoy the razor.

Nice review. I didn't realize before that the Vision was such a big razor.

Celestino, better than the Futur!

I didn't compare it to the Cobra. The razors are far too different for that! Although both are unique, the Cobra is pretty much in a class of its own.
