Tennessee is supposed to get an ice storm tonight. It's been a long time since we've had an ice storm. Meteorologists are predicting up to a 1/2 inch of ice. It will all most likely be gone by Saturday morning, but tomorrow will be hairy. To all the TN Nookers, stay safe. I know there's a bunch of us.

I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. County has already cancelled school for tomorrow and if it looks bad, I'll be staying home as well.

I know there are a lot of us Tenners on the Nook, so you all be safe!

Thanks For the words of wisdom Dave, it has been nineteen years since my last ice storm, we were lucky to be out of power for only four days.

Having grown up in Canada, I'm no stranger to harsh winter weather. Snow can be cumbersome, but ice can be treacherous!
Be safe my fellow TSN members ... stay home if possible, avoiding the roads, and enjoy your stockpiles of shaving gear.

I hope everyone stays safe there in TN. Hopefully there will be no power outages. I just dealt with a 48 hr outage in Michigan four days ago. My house got down to 38 degrees!

I'm glad I don't work tomorrow but this better not interfere with my massage tomorrow. Tongue

Just stay home! No one likes driving on ice. It can be done if you do it all the time, but you have no control over the other person. Just stay home! The potential downside far outweighs the upside. Be safe.

OK, I think it was '89. We had an icestorm that lasted for 3 days- no exaggeration. It was like the end of the world. 4" of ice covered everything, again, no exaggeration. Go outside and it sounded like a firefight with the breaking of trees and the crashing and shattering of the ice. It wasn't fun but it was interesting. We are fortunate, we're on a "trunk line" and got our power back fairly soon, 5 1/2 days. Others not so fortunate.

It was our heads up for doing a lot of things differently. Sure we were OK as was everyone else on the hill, but today we wouldn't just be OK, we'd be downright snug and almost like nothing was happening...running water, electricity, no difference.

:-) FWIW, a few days after we got power back, our neighbor up the road came down and discovered for the first time that we'd had power for days. He had no idea and really didn't miss it. Our houses are spread out and he couldn't see through the 1/4 mile of trees.

Yes, we do get snow in parts of Australia, but I haven't seen snow since I was a child in Liverpool, England, in the early 1960s. The year we left Liverpool (1964) the Mersey had frozen over. When we landed in Fremantle some weeks later, there was a record heat wave. My wife has never seen snow.

The Ice Storm is one of my favourite films of all time. Ang Lee vintage. Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver and the dude that became famous in the Tolkien movies, umm Elijah Wood.

Seeing as you're going to be all snowed in - or iced in - why not check it out? My favourite scene (one of many) is the kid with the whip and the plant. You'll see what I mean when you get to it Smile

Everyone stay safe in the crazy cold and icy weather, be careful if you have to be out on the roads.

At least you get an actual winter, it was 80 degrees in Austin today.

The trees are still glistening with ice here but it should melt off today, and fortunately it did not get thick enough to cause any damage or power outages here either.
I hope the rest of you Volunteers fared as well.
I did hear that the eastern counties were probably hit a little harder. Looks like we dodged another bullet though.
