Hi All,

I'm slowly learning more and more about the wonderful world of traditional wet shaving thanks all of you Shave Nook veterans. Thank you! Biggrin

I'm happy with my Razor (Edwin Jagger DE89L), still working through Blades to see what I like, and in the midst of getting a nice Bowl (The Shave Nook 2012 Limited Edition Bowl), but I was wondering if you all had suggestions for:

* What are the best performing All-Natural or "Minimal Chemical" Shaving Creams and Soaps you'd recommend?

Pouring over some threads, I see Martin de Candre is one option (albeit very expensive). That has the right vibe I was looking for (so few ingredients, all-natural).

But I read some comments from people saying they liked "other" Shaving Creams / Soaps that were a fraction of the price and had similar properties (All-Natural?). But they didn't post *what* they were. Wink

Up until now I've only been using up the last of my Kiss My Face, Green Tea & Bamboo Shaving Cream (which is mostly Natural, but has a few questionable ingredients).

Thanks for the advice!

Hi tonsorius, moe,

Thanks for the recommendations. Calani might have a few too many ingredients for my tastes. I'll check out Mikes Natural Soaps.

Thanks. Smile

Personally, I will add another vote for Mikes and Mystic Water. I own soaps from both and love them.

I haven't tried one yet but the RazoRock Artisan soaps have fairly simple ingredients and get rave reviews.

You may already know this but you can't truely make soap with out chemicals like Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to saponify the fats/oils. If done correctly, the saponification process will result in soaps that are fantastic for shaving and mild on your skin. The vendors mentioned above seem to have have nailed it.

Thanks Songwind! Smile

I'll be sure to check those out.

For KMF Green Tea, it was Fragrance and Retinyl Palmitate.

Do any of the names we usually throw around not use natural ingredients? Just wondering. I'd hazard a guess that some use preservatives.

I was gonna say Nancy Boy. I thought for sure that they would be "all natural". Doesn't appear so. Polyquaternium-7? I wouldn't have expected that.

In addition to preservatives, some people who are interested in natural ingredients don't like to use soap w/ stearic acid, as it's already been processed from palm or tallow.

Hi SharpSpine (and All),

Does anyone know if the "Parfum" (Perfume) in Cella is all-natural Essential Oils? Or synthetic?

Thanks.

"Parfum" is usually fragrance oil, I believe. Which is generally synthetic, I think.

Hi All,

Thanks so much for the great suggestions! I've noted them all down and started doing research on them (price, ingredients, etc.). I'm so glad to see that there are quite a few All-Natural / Minimal Chemical Shaving Creams & Soaps. Wink

For Round 1 (1st Try) at one of these All-Natural Soap / Creams, I've narrowed it down to:

* Mike's Natural vs. Mystic Water vs. Martin de Candre vs. Queen Charlotte

For anyone who's tried these, can you chime in with your experience on Quality of Lather, Lasting Power, Moisturizing / Feel, and Scent?

Thanks for the help! Biggrin

I've used two of the above; Mike's & MdC. MdC wins hands down for me. I've been using It almost exclusively since the New Year. I have very little desire to use anything else.
