Arko shaving soap : love it or hate it.
In the wet shaving world are 3 soaps which causes passional love or eternal hatred among wet shavers because of the performance or the scent : one is Williams Shaving soap, the Tabac shaving soap and Arko Shaving stick.

I am the one who used to have a bad relationship with Arko due to its scent, even when it not that bad shaving soap performer, but I left it "open", without the paper wrap, for over a month, and its scent is even "decent".

What about you gents, are you Arko lovers or Arko critics?

I have never tried Arko. I hope to get my hands on some eventually.

I wasn't impressed with Arko, but I didn't hate it. I sold mine or PIFed it, I can't remember.

RE: Arko shaving soap : love it or hate it.
I grated the stick into a small tin and use it for travel. The scent was a little strong but it never really bothered me. To me it smells like a strong bar of Ivory soap like my Mom used.

If you grate it and let it set in the open for about a week before you compact it, the smell is very weak.

It is an excellent lathering soap that helps to give a good shave.

It is not for the rose or lavender lover, that's for sure.

And Teiste, your video scares me.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Arko soap - the scent is nice and soapy with awesome lather, and it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and uncomfortable.

RE: Arko shaving soap : love it or hate it.
Being from Turkey, I have no problems with the smell of Arko. It reminds me of cleanliness, bathrooms or Turkish Hamams to be more specific. In Turkish Hamams we use what we call 'white soap (bath soap)' and it has a very similar clean scent like Arko. Sometimes, I stop just to take a sniff of Arko and feel refreshed!!

I think it is a great performer and is almost free :D. In online stores and e-bay I saw some prices even as high as 4.5 euros, but in Turkey it is nearly 1 Turkish Liras which equals a little less than half a euro !

There should be an additional option. It is a good soap but I find the scent to be so disagreeable that I cannot use it.

I know...I am just messing with you. I kind of took your quote out of context. Wink

RE: Arko shaving soap : love it or hate it.
I like the soap and can use it. It's far from my best soap, but if all my others disappeared in the blink of an eye I could easily use it. I even like the scent. I don't use it in stck form anymore though. I grate it into a puck.

To me it smells like Williams and I like that scent as well. Some who dislike the scent call it citronella. Others who like the scent call it lemon verbena. I like it and I still call it citronella.

It's a good performing soap for the price. And it makes a good travel stick.

For the price it's hard to beat... and after leaving it out of the wrapper for a couple of weeks the scent is almost gone too. It's not my best soap though, but in my rotation.

I hate the soap but love the cream. They have a very "un-arko" scent to them. They're great performers and cheap to boot.
