Cadet Open Comb DE
Gents, I just placed an order with Phil for a Cadet Excalibur TP26. It's looks alone sold me but has anyone posted a thorough review? All impressions are appreciated. After all, I have to wait three whole days until I get my own! Rolleyes

Hi Billy

It's my understanding the Cadet Open Comb head is the same on each of the 3 piece offerings, therefore if I'm correct on that point the following reviews should prove helpful: Take care, Mike

Hi Billy

No worries... regardless of the "low" price point, I believe it's an excellent DE razor that delivers a smooth, close shave.

I look forward to hearing your comments on it, once you've experienced the shave it gives you...

Take care, Mike

RE: Cadet Open Comb DE
The Cadet OC is the only razor I own where I can get a beautiful, close shave in only 2 passes instead of my usual 3.

After using it for a couple of months, it's more aggressive than the Gillette Old Type and FaTip, both favorite razors of mine. But the Cadet's efficiency is the most pronounced feature allowing me to go only 2 passes for BBS. Great if you're pressed for time.

The Cadet open comb is a Good Razor - bit on the aggressive side but not in a bad way; just watch the angle of attack while shaving Tongue

I have the RazoRock Little Bastone OC- which is manufactured for RR by the makers of the Cadet. The head is the same as the Cadet and I enjoy it quite a bit. It's my first OC and it shaves a lot smoother than I originally thought an OC would...it took a couple shaves to hone in the technique as it is a little different than shaving with a SB razor, but I get a nice smooth enjoyable shave out of it.

I really enjoy the shaves from the Cadet Mongoose. I do enjoy use three piece razors, definitely would consider this.

I found the FaTip to be mildly aggressive (the Old Type not so much) so considering my Joris, NEW Deluxe, Big Fellow and other OCs get regular attention, I'll bet the Cadet will compliment them nicely.

Thanks, Gents!

I like the Cadet OC quite a bit.
I look forward to your impressions, especially considering your OC roster.

RE: Cadet Open Comb DE
Received the Cadet OC this morning (SHD-26, Black handle 3-piece). Wow, I'm impressed so far with its build quality and heft. The head design reminds me quite a bit of the Joris/FaTip. Nice plating. I see a few cast/machine flaws, one tiny mark on one edge of the cap. But nothing that should affect it or me while in action.

More later after I give it its first spin.

One shave in.

Blade: Super Iridium on 3rd use.

First Immpressions: Overall feel reminded me of the Joris and it has a similar blade exposure. Not surprising given it's similarity to the Joris design. I noticed the cap/base fit has some play so a bit of blade alignment was required. Nothing too drastic but it's there.

Shave: Like the Joris, it's really effective and only required two passes to mow down almost 3 days of growth. Like with all agressive(ish) razors, I took care to dial in the proper angle but it didn't take too much learning before I was comfortable.

One shave conclusion: This is a poor man's Joris. Looking forward to spending some more time with this value razor!

Hi Billy

That's some initial conclusion (I have zero Joris experience), but I have to agree for the money they are dynamite razors...

Take care, Mike

Mike - yes, time will tell but the first shave was, as Yogi Berra would say, "deja vu all over again". Nearly the same as my first Joris shave and the design lineage tells me that should be no coincidence. The Joris' quality is definitely higher but that luxury comes at a price (which I gladly paid for twice Blush). The Cadet is dynamite for sure...

RE: Cadet Open Comb DE
I'M done with Cadets. I bought the black handled Cadet open comb in October of 2012 from Bull Goose shaving. The black paint started fading in November and the screw broke off the head that connects the comb to the handle. I contacted Phil to let him know the paint was fadding and there was nothing he could do because there was no warranty and what really sucks is you can't even read reviews of products on Bull Goose so my next razor wont be coming from there.

I know they are are less expensive razors but they should not completely fall apart in 3 months. The bad thing about it, is that I really enjoyed the shave.
