Calani Classic Havana shaving soap.

This is truly one of my fav. artisan shaving soaps : the Calani Classic Havana.

Calani is a German artisan brand which makes not only shaving soaps, but also balms and also shampoos, bath soaps and body care products : http://www.calani-seifenmanufaktur.de/Ca...sierseifen

As I said, this is an artisan soap, but it comes with the most elegant presentation I have seen so far in the artisan shaving soap making world : on a carboard box and wrapped in tissue paper.

Those are the ingredients of this soap :

As you can read this soap contains olive oil,as well as shea butter and almond oil,and of course, palm and coconut oils.

Is the olive oil a problem'as it is in other shaving soaps,to make a good, thick, dense, stable lather from it?Well and image is woth more than a 1.000 words so here is a pic with a Semogue SOC finest badger :

The lather is not only stable, but also really slick, something that straight user would really like.

The skin care properties of this soap are top notch.I have really dry skin, but this soap is playing on a mayor league when it comes to protect your skin from shaving. With only a few soaps more out there, this soap provides me a excellent skin care (as all the Calani soaps,I have to be honest, even when the ingredients/formulations are not all the same) and also If I would have to leave aside my after shave balm,my skin wont be dry or itchy due to lack of hydration.

And how is the scent?Well, even when it seems have some tobacco plant fragrance on it,I find it more woody than herbal/spicy,with some fresh notes, and much different than Tabac or Marlborough shaving soap scents.
This soap scent is elegant and subtle, masculine but not "macho man" style.Of all the Calani soaps I have tried (almost all),its my favorite with Cadre Noir.

I totally can recommend Calani soaps,if you are looking for a good artisan shaving soap. For some reason I dont see Calani as artisan, but they truly are,and Catherine, the owner and maker, have done an excellent job with her brand.

You can also purchase directly, for less $, even with international shipping. The owner is very easy to deal with...if I do purchase more it will be direct.

Teiste, you're certainly not helping (or helping too much) my shaving soap AD with all of these great reviews of fine soaps.

RE: Calani Classic Havana shaving soap.
I posted this before the migration, but if you order direct you can get these soaps for fraction of the cost. Assuming, of course, the order size is large enough to offset the shipping cost. I ordered one of every scent out of curiosity. That put me at about $8 per puck. Most vendors stay sold out of the most popular scents, but they're are worth it at the ~$16 price tag if they are in stock.

Per usual, MODS feel free to edit or delte this if I am accidentally undercutting a vendor.

Teiste, forgive me if I've asked before, but could you share more about your photography setup? Maybe a whole new post in the Parlor...I need to step my camera game up. Thanks!
