Facial moisturizer
What is the best facial moisturizer you have found for after a shave. I have very dry skin and have been looking for something that is moisturizing but not oily and not too heavily scented so it will not redden my rosacea.

Hi

Luckily I don't have rosacea, my wife does suffer with it though and she's found Aveeno products work very! well for her.

I do have "sensitive" skin and tend to prefer "fragrance free" moisturisers. I therefore decided to recently experiment, test a number of different "face" moisturisers that can easily be picked up locally. With all of them, I contacted the company's directly to ensure the actual products are safe/suitable for face use (which is a very important thing to check in my opinion):
  • * Aveeno - Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion (with Oats / Fragrance Free)
    * Aveeno - Active Naturals Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 (with Feverfew)
    * Eucerin - Original Moisturizing Creme
    * Gold Bond Ultimate - Healing Lotion & Cream with Aloe
    * Lubriderm - Men's 3-in-1 Fragrance Free Lotion
    * Nivea for Men - Q10 Revitalizing Double Action Balm
    * Vaseline - MEN Fast Absorbing Body & Face Lotion
    * Vaseline - MEN Fragrance Free Body & Face Lotion
    [/list:u]

Personally I've found all make good to excellent post-shave moisturisers. I have some other similar products on my list to try, but can't recommend them one way or the other at this time...

Just for your information, below are the other moisturisers on my list to try, but like I said above, I can't comment on how good or bad they are at this time, though I have already checked with the relevant company's that they are safe/suitable for face use:
    • * Aveeno - Active Naturals Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer (with Soy)
      * Aveeno - Active Naturals Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer SPF 30 (with Southernwood)
      * Gold Bond Ultimate - Restoring Lotion & Cream with CoQ10
      * Gold Bond Ultimate - Softening Lotion & Cream with Shea Butter
      * Nivea for Men - Extreme Comfort After Shave Balm
      * Neutrogena - Neutrogena Men Sensitive Skin Post Shave Balm
      * Neutrogena - Oil-Free Moisture - Sensitive Skin
      [/list:u]

Good luck and I hope the above helps...

      Take care, Mike

Hi

The only other ones I can recommend for face use:
  • * Moisturizing Cream
    * Moisturizing Lotion
    [/list:u]

The other creams and lotions those company's (ones I listed previously) produce might be more intense, but they are not safe for facial use.

Also if those creams and lotions are unable to seal in the moisture and keep your skin hydrated throughout the day, then I don't believe you will find any "specific" aftershave balms, lotions, etc are up to the job.

The only other thing I can recommend is applying a 2nd, 3rd... application during the day as your skin begins to dry out.

Sorry I can't offer anymore help than that.

    Take care, Mike

Re: Facial moisturizer
Face: CeraVe Lotion (pump bottle). Nivea Soft (tubbed). The former's lighter than the latter.
Body: Nivea Creme (tubbed/tinned).

Re: Facial moisturizer
Check out the Kiehl's brand. I use their Ultimate AfterShave Balm & Moisturizer and it is great. A little goes a long way and if you use too much it will leave you sticky/tacky/greasy. But find the right amount and it's amazing stuff!

RE: Facial moisturizer
I would not only use an aftershave balm.

I would apply a moisturizer on the evening before sleeping (use a good cleanser before).

You can go natural with jojoba oil or shea butter. Not very confortable as it takes a while to dry.

My favorite cream is the Dexeryl cream :
http://www.amazon.com/Pierre-Fabre-Dexer...499&sr=8-1

I found it to have the same main components as the santa novella pre dopo barba cream (petroleum, parafinum liquidum). It works wonder.
It is way cheaper for me in France than 22$. May be you can find something similar at lower price.

RE: Facial moisturizer
I like both Cetaphil and Purpose face moisturizers. Though I only get dry skin occasionally in the winter and one light application is good enough for me.

RE: Facial moisturizer
I think i may have found the answer to my problems. it is made by Mary Kay
[Image: d6gpubgmkgrhqmhd0etr2vr.jpg]
it is awesome. it smells kinda girly but this stuff works, I think it cost about 12 or 13 dollars but it will last a while. the one i have is older and comes in the tub but the new one comes in a squeeze tube. It is ridiculously thick. thicker than Vaseline. So if you have extreme dry skin this is the only stuff I have found that will keep my skin moisturized all day.

Facial moisturizer
Penhaligons Aftershave Balm
Trumpers Unscented Moisturizer
Pre de Provence 100% Shea Butter

Institut Karite is also nice but I was not fond of the scent they use in the ASB or the shave soap.

RE: Facial moisturizer
I like the Pacific Shaving face moisturizer. I also tried the Every Man Jack moisturizer which I was disappointed in. By Fall I will order The Kiehl's Brand. I have never tried it but I as Brian mentioned above it seems to get good reviews.

Re: Facial moisturizer
I realize this is an old thread, but I just want to mention a product that has worked well for me. My rosacea has mostly disappeared since I eliminated fragrances. I use unscented soap to wash, unscented shave soaps and shave creams, and use CeraVe lotion on my face. It is soothing and unscented. My face looks much better since I started this routine!

RE: Facial moisturizer
Hey guys, Karen has been fighting rosacea for a couple of years. We found a solution that works. A mixture of Tea Tree oil and some Almond oil applied with a cotton ball on a freshly washed face. Two timw per day and you could have the worst of it gone in a week. If you slack it may return but it will not get to the point of painful if your doing it once a day.

Yeah, Yeah, I know how it sounds. The Tea Tree absolutely kills anything and everything living on your skin and the Almond oil moisturizses. We were hours away from taking her to the hospital because it flaired up real bad one weekend and I put a Rosacea Forum on her BlackBerry and she had it figured out in about 36 hours. 10 days later it was gone and she had a few bad patches that took another week to heal but I have to say the difference was drastic!

I'm gonna see if I can find that thread and post it here for you. She tried about 10 or 12 products but they all contained scent and or chemicals thus they were just a waste.

See Ya Around! :)

RE: Facial moisturizer
By far, the best facial moisturizer i've ever used is by Nancy Boy, and I've used Clinique, Kiehl's, etc. I use their daily face cream after my aftershave in the morning, and their ultramarine night cream before bed. There is also some very good information contained on the site, although certainly in an effort to sell more.

And their shaving cream is excellent as well!

I'm using Aesop moisturiser, very good product, absorbs quickly into the skin with a matt finish.

I use these:

Step 1
Clinique M Lotion (Fall & Winter)
Clinique M Gel-Lotion (Spring & Summer)

Step 2
Clinique Youth Surge SPF15 (Fall & winter)
Clinique Age Defense SPF15 (Spring & Summer)

When I travel, I just use this one - very good mositurizer for the price, in fact great no matter the price level:
