Homemade DE razor travel case aka Altoids tin
Material used:
  • Empty Altoids tin
  • Scrap piece of felt (used to line the inside of the lid)
  • Scrap piece of foam packaging (from Alpha sons new iPod nano)
  • Gorilla Glue (used to stick the felt to the inside of the lid)
  • Scalpel blade (used to cut/shape the foam to receive the razor)
  • Edwin Jagger DE89L

Original attempt at cutting/shaping the foam to receive the Edwin Jagger DE89L, not particularly happy with the result.

2nd attempt at cutting/shaping the foam to receive the Edwin Jagger DE89L, result is a bit cleaner, nice looking (even if I do say so myself).

When I build "Travel Case 2.0" I'll use:
  • Some kind of spray mount adhesive to attach the felt to the inside of tin lid, doing so should make for a cleaner and easier job overall.
  • Closed-cell foam, I believe (rightly or wrongly) it would be easier to shape, plus overall make for a more professional looking job.
  • Need to work on my scalpel blade skills ie make cleaner, more precise cuts -- working with closed-cell foam should also make things that bit easier.

I'm not so sure about that... I may make the odd one or two if I'm asked to (at no cost), as I enjoy doing quick little DIY projects like that...

I'll definitely look into a matt or stain black paint job.

Those are some seriously different but good looking mail nail clippers W00t

I like it. Leave it the way it is. Put a sticker on the back that says "not for human consumption". :)

That's hands down the best DE travel case I've seen! Where do I play my order?

We don't get "Altoids" here in Australia...

Very, very cool idea Mike.
If you want a better glue for V.2 try Loctite Stic`n Seal.
You can also use any fabric, like that nice satin stuff women keep in the closet. LOL

Hi Ben

What DE razor would you want to carry in such a travel case?

If I have the razor (so I can cut/shape the foam), I will make you a travel case and send it out to you (no charge).

Take care, Mike

Inexpensive to make, uses easily obtained materials, easily constructed from the photos and your description - That is excellent! Thank you very much for that post.

RE: Homemade DE razor travel case aka Altoids tin
My wife had a little Pentex camera that fit nicely in an Altoids tin. Gave the camera to grandarling, but kept the tins. Now, where the heck are they?

Well done!

RE: Homemade DE razor travel case aka Altoids tin
I already have a travel razor that I made a new case for, but I was never happy with a Tech for the head. Very soon I'll replace the Tech head with a New. It fits right in there and the shave is much better.
