So, you want a new shaving brush but cannot decide which one? You like a certain handle style, but it is not offered in the hair quality, size, or loft you like.
For any custom work contact me and we can discuss your needs. My goal is to fulfill the needs and wishes of my customers. I have made brushes from woods, resins, acrylics, antler, horn and even pre-ban ivory. Some of my work included removing boar knots from simple, light plastic handles and set them into new handles turned from custom cast butterscotch resin or faux ivory.I also do a lot of restoration work. I have revived 30+ year old brushes with high sentimental value, into like-new ones that will see another 30 years of usage.

For new custom brushes here is how I work: After my customer has decided on shape and material of handle and size, quality and loft of the hair knot, I make the handle and set the knot loosely in. Then I take a picture and send it to the customer for approval. If it is approved, my customer pays me and I glue the knot in and pack and ship the brush to him - the customer knows exactly what he is getting!

I have access to knots from Shavemac that are hand made in Germany for me. Knots can be made in Finest (a mix of silvertip with high grade pure to give a bit more of backbone), standard silvertip, silvertip D01 three and two band. Shapes for the knot can be bulb, fan or extreme flattop. The quality of Shavemac knots is second to none. I believe they are the best knots there is. Knots for me were made as small as 14 mm or as large as 32 mm, every variety is possible.

Other knots I use come from TGN, and I use mainly the two-band finest and the higher end silver-tips (Grade A, Super Silvertip and Super-badger).

So, if you are in need for a new brush, want an antique store find restored or need an old brush re-knotted, please contact me: send me a pm or e-mail me to: ultimatependesigns@comcast.net

Rudy crafted this tortoiseshell beehive for me. The knot is a 21mm Muhle Silvertip Fibre v2. This is a great little brush, and I highly recommend working with Rudy.

Rudy does great work. Here are some custom brushes he made for me, with Shavemac D01 2-band knots and handles made of real ivory and ancient kauri wood.

A big thank you to all for the many well wishes!!!
I am back at the lathe since the past weekend. What a good feeling.
The Muehle synthetic knots arrived here yesterday.
The huge Shavemac knot you may have seen in another post are all gone. But, I always can order more if there is any interest.

Update 2/3/2013:
The huge Shavemac knots I had are all gone, but if someone has interest in a similar brush, please contact me.
Right now I have a little stock of the same knots that went into the B&B 2012 LE brush, but it is dwindling fast.
Also in stock I have one larger D01 Three band (will be a good 27 mm knot size where it leaves the handle and the loft will be 52 mm, fan shape).
Then there are two smaller D01 two-band, a bulb and a fan shaped pair with about 21 mm knot size and a loft of 48 mm max.
Muehle synthetics have arrived and I have both the two main sizes: 21 and 23 mm

The Moonjava material is all gone, and I am not sure if I get more, I need to find more of this stuff. Its great, but it comes from overseas and shipping is a huge factor for the cost of the material.

Hi Rudy

Those restorations look good Thumbsup

What new knot (hair type and from where) went in what handle?

Also what size are the knots and final loft heights?

Take care, Mike

From the left to right:
20 mm Two-band Finest (TGN)
20 mm Silvertip Grade A (TGN)
18 mm Silvertip Grade A (TGN)

Sorry, I did not measure the final lofts.
