THE SHAVE

1. Preshave: Shea Moisture Shea Butter and African Black Soap Shave Butter (as a preshave only: not a shaving cream);

2. Soap: Mitchell Wool Fat;

3. Brush: Omega 31020 boar;

4. Bowl: a ceramic bowl made by my older daughter about fifteen years ago;

5. Razor: Cadet TP-26, open comb, short handle (purchased from Joe at Shaveabuck.com);

6. Blade: Feather;

7. Astringent: Art of Shaving alum;

8. Aftershave: Stetson Cooling Moisture.

THE NONSENSICAL RAMBLINGS

The Liturgist to the Congregation

Weaklings! Hear me! The Grim Lords of Shaving demand the blood of mortals! They bid you take up these bloody engines and pour them out your scarlet libations!

Kneel before them! Worship them in their fierce, relentless majesty! Worship them, and shave!

The Response of the Congregation

The short-handled TP-26 is a bit longer than the Cadet Robusto, which is itself a bit longer than a classic Gillette. It's about the same length as my Edwin Jagger DE87. I think that it's a trifle heavier than the Edwin Jagger.

I had shaved the other evening with the Cadet Robusto, the head of which is identical to the head of the TP-26. I had no problem with the Robusto, so I wasn't worried about using the Feather.

I did contrive to nick my ear--a moment of inattention as I was approaching my cheeky runway. But I can nick my ear with my elbow,* so I didn't hold that against the razor.

I like the weight and length of the short-handled TP-26. The Cadet open-comb head is not terribly aggressive, and the design matches well with every blade I've tried in it. I think that the razor is also very handsome. It rivals my most attractive Gillettes.[/i]

The Mitchell Wool Fat always works well. I'm using up the Shea Moisture as fast as I can, simply to be done with it.

The Omega 31020 is my favorite brush: soft tips, but plenty of backbone.

And the tiki? Well, you got to serve somebody . . .

* If you do not pause over that assertion, perhaps I could interest you in an incredible opportunity to purchase a large quantity of steel at a very low price. The steel is currently in place and spanning a body of water in a port city in the northeastern United States. But this is a guaranteed investment! Please contact me c/o Brooklyn Bridge Sales, LLC, Scamalot, MN.

#6 Horsehair
Super Speed/Rapira day 4
Speick SC
Lubriderm unscented moisturizer
Booster Polar Ice AS
YSL Pour Homme EDT

For the first time in a few weeks I didn't use anything with menthol and I actually enjoyed the shave very much. The Speick cream smells so nice and gives such great lather and skincare. The Booster Polar Ice is a definite keeper for me - it's another Canadian barbershop classic which has been around for a long time.
