Stroppe Shoppe Issues
Has anyone else had issues with the Stroppe Shoppe as far as communication and responding to emails and questions as far as getting product out? I understand its a small business and I like their soap but customer service is lacking. I get packages from Germany faster.

Thanks,

Kurt

They can be slow with response but I've always ended up getting a response eventually. Also, they are slow getting the product in the mail sometimes. Their soap is really good though and in the end it's worth it.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
Thanks for replying. I have tried the soap it's good the customer service is not. I did some more research and it appears others have had issues as well. It's completely unacceptable for a vendor to be none responsive take your money but not get the product out in a timely manner. I did ask for a refund and I see I got a note from the vendor saying she was refunding me my purchase. However too much time had passed. Most
vendors will send a note via email communicating when a products ships. Nothing from this outfit. Now I know why I like dealing with Qed and a few others that understand customer service.

I will not be purchasing again.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
kurtis, I am with you. Would love to try this soap as they are one of the few artisans not using shea or lanolin in every soap they make. Sadly, it was not to be. Maybe someday I'll give them another shot.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
I placed an order 3/21. Shipped on 3/24 and I received shipping status email. Three days is acceptable and I can live with that, especially if they are truly artisan and this is not their primary job. Several other retailers (WCS, Bullgoose, Italian Barber, etc.) are typically shipping next day or even same day if order is early enough, I'd pay a bit extra to order Strop Shoppe from one of them. I did send and email question to Strop Shoppe about a sale and received no response at all, that is pretty much not acceptable as far as customer service goes......... but same with Mike's Naturals, sent him an email and never a response.

I too am having issues with Strop Shoppe communication. I think it's strange that there is no communication whatsoever (even automatic emails) on order confirmation or estimated ship time. More than a week has passed since initial order & payment - and vendor is MIA in spite of 2 emails.

Let me contrast with Mike's Natural who is no rapid shipper himself but there is always a banner on his front page with current est ship times. At least you know what you're getting into.

With so many good soaps around - I am not sure I will bother with Strop Shoppe again even if the soap is very good (assuming I ultimately receive it).

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
I was refraining from posting but i'll give you my story:

I ordered 2 "in stock" products on Sept 19. 2 weeks go by and not a peep out of them. I email them, email is returned 4 days later saying that the product is still being made. I reply saying that I specifically purchased "in stock" products according to their website. I travel for a living and due to my living arrangements I have to be on top of shipped items otherwise they don't make it to me.

I emailed them a few times without reply until I finally requested a refund (approximately 1 month after purchase). They offered to refund my purchase or ship me an additional product of my choice and they would expedite shipping. Since I waited so long, I opted for the additional product.

I received my package after exactly 6 weeks since placing the order, missing the additional product as I was promised. I emailed them informing them, and they emailed me back a few days later apologizing and saying that they would set things right. It's been 3 weeks since that last emails and they haven't replied to any of my follow up emails.

I'm hoping that my additional product is in the mail, but without any contact from them I'm in the dark. As much as I think they make great products, I don't see myself purchasing from them again.

I had similar problems, as so many others have had as well. They charged my card right away but I heard nothing for over a month. I tried contacting them and sent out emails. Their silly phone message says they are open during business hours only, no matter what time you call them. Which in their case, they are never open. It was only after I threatened to contact the credit card company did they refund my money. Even then they accused me of breaking a deal. Can you image the lack of business sense they have and the audacity. If they had spent more time taking care of business instead of accusing a customer and refunding his money only after a threat, they would be better off. I will never give them my money nor do business with them ever.

Stroppe Shoppe Issues
With so many other quality soap makers out there with equal or better products and that have good customer support I don't see any reason to mess around with a company like this. I would hold out hope that they will improve except that these issues with them have been discussed here for months with no improvement.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
Well on a number of forums they put out an open letter saying that they got overwhelmed and are trying to be better about communication, etc. Many people bought soap from them and received it, but there are also many like us who feel cheated. I can't complain because I got my original order, but it's the principle of it that irks me the most.

I've spent countless hundreds on this hobby, I was hoping that Strop Shoppe would have a place in my den but I guess they don't want my money.

Stroppe Shoppe Issues
The Strop Shoppe soaps are great products, easily among the best performing artisan soaps I have tried.

I can't say my purchasing experience with them went as smoothly as I'd like. But I eventually received my product (more than I ordered because of an error they had to correct). I think they really ought to decide to sell their product through a few vendors. I don't think their broad range of product offerings would lend itself well to the Panna Crema model (sell a few batches of product once every several months). They should let vendors deal with the customer service issues and shipping. And customers would have the opportunity to buy something in stock.

In spite of their problems, their product is so good that I plan to order more when my current tub runs out. Unless it seems like they are flagrantly taking people's money and running. I keep an eye out for it on the BST, but don't see much for sale.

Andrew

I've placed two orders with Strop Shoppe and shipping was slow on the first order. Communication was good though, and the shave soap is among the best I've used. I placed a second order this month- communication was excellent and shipping was fast.

Hmm, they were one of the few artisans I was interested in ordering from. I will have to think about it now, I don't tolerate the "artisan" production schedules, be it soaps or brushes, well. Even an artist can be communicative and upfront on delivery dates.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
An update:

I sent Kali several follow-up e-mails with no response. I went on their website and created a new email ticket and Larry followed up. I expressed my issues and frustrations with my scenario (he didn't have access to the emails I sent Kali). He rushed me my missing soaps and provided a tracking number.

Larry's customer service was redeeming, not sure if I will order again though. I don't want to have to deal with Kali again.

you can take the short road or you can take the long road - but if the long road doesn't bring additional pleasure i wouldn't bother.

RE: Stroppe Shoppe Issues
I've had to wait much longer for Panna Crema, Mike's, MdC and others with not a chance of communication. However, all of these top notch soaps are worth waiting for. Many of the artisans have day jobs, and are doing their best to produce and ship their product. Because they produce such high quality products, they become popular, and their ability to meet the demand in a timely manner ceases. Mike's recently had to stop taking orders because he was too overwhelmed with orders that could't be filled without an excessively long wait time. I enjoy a large variety of the products mentioned because I was willing to wait for them, and I would hardly use anything else. If you want something that is mass produced that you can pull of the shelf or be sent within a day of ordering them, go right ahead. I'm much more interested in supporting local artisans who are trying to make a go of it and are producing top of the line products. If they do well enough, they might be able to spend less time at a day job and more time producing their shaving product. There is hardly anything better than Stroppe Shoppe Baker Street, Barbershoppe, Black Tie, and Teak Wood and they are well worth the wait. I've been waiting on Mystic Waters Sardinian Honey for over a month and it looks like I'll have to wait at least another two weeks, but you can bet I'll snatch up a puck as soon as it's available.
