The Sabi's have arrived!
My long awaited Sabi razors have arrived!

I had waited for these to become available from shaveabuck for several months and had them on pre-order since December 27th, so I was extremely happy to have them in my possesion.

I ordered two of the Sabi T2's but was sent one T2 short handle version and one T1 long handle by mistake :(
I have e-mailed Joe about this and am awaiting his response as I really like short-handle razors but I figured that a photo opp would not hurt right?

The first thing you notice when you take them out of their box is the sheer weight...they are heavy!
The T2 weighs in at 100 grams while the long handle T1 is 114 grams-don't drop these bad boys on your toe!

I have recently added a FaTip Grande to my collection and comparing the Sabi to the FaTip I would say they are similiar in craftsmanship, each having several small flaws on the cap as well as underside the head. The handles are really where the Sabi shines though, beautifully finished with thick chrome plating.I actually like the two piece handle as I can make my short handle even shorter if the need arises.

I will shave with the T2 tomorrow and post my thoughts but for now I will just admire it on my shave rack.

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
Beautiful razor Jeff and congratulations on finally getting one. I am very sure the shave will be excellent. The head is identical to the Mariner and the other Sabi razors T1-T4 which is more to the aggressive side. I am waiting in fact for the Sabi T-4 more for the head as I will mate it to my Griest 360 brass handle which is 111 grams.

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
the sabi t3 is the one razor that is too aggressive for me. Gem OCMM? a suckling dove by comparison.

that handle does look nice and tempting though...

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
They look great, I love the T2 handle. I just couldn't get along with the Sabi head and included it with a Weber handle I recently sold. The shave from it was excellent, but the corners/edges of the bottom plate were very sharp and jagged, shaving with it felt like I was lightly dragging the point of a knife across my cheeks...very uncomfortable. I hope yours is much smoother!

Agreed! An affordable & more importantly attainable Bob's Razor Works style handle for us "poor" folk Biggrin

They are as heavy as they look and very nice looking too.

Funny you should mention that...
When the razors arrived I ran a test trial up my face with the T2 and I thought for a split second that a blade was loaded in the razor as I had that R41 "singing" sound as I moved the razor from South to North up my face.
We'll see if it is an issue (hopefully not) tomorrow.

Interesting...
I shave with a Muhle R41 every other day and have consistent great shaves but both times I used my Gem G-bar (the Pussycat of Gems), I was left raw as hell.
Of course, this was probably me more than anything regarding shaving angle than the razor itself, but I just love the look of the G-bar, it's just timeless. I just wish it agreed with my face more.

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
Claus,
Sabi stands for Shave A Buck Incorporated
and is only available from Joe @ Shaveabuck.

The razor shares the head with the highly rated New York Shaving Company Mariner razor but features a much nicer handle which looks earily similiar to the Bull Mastiff Deluxe with flared knob that Bob's Razor Works used to offer (RIP Bob).

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
First shave completed with the Sabi T2-

Loaded a Super Iridium blade and mixed up some Mitchell's Wool Fat with my SOC boar brush.
Quick note: I have been using the SOC with MWF for the past couple weeks and it is a great match, the SOC really works with the Fat extremely well and my SOC is finally just starting to split some of the bristles.

Back to the razor-
Took my time on the first couple passes as some have said the razor is unforgiving but I found that was not the case for me.
I made my typical two pass shave and rinsed off and noticed I still had some stubble on both cheeks.

Very unusual...
I then did a third pass from nose to ears and was pretty well BBS. But I did something I never do with my R41...I used pressure to attain a clean shave.

I think Arcadies comment about the sharp edges on the bottom plate are dead on and that's why people think the shave is so aggressive. It feels like the razor is giving such a close shave because of these edges.

I then went over my face with my Alum Bloc which I hardly ever touch anymore, typically only when I am trying out a new sharp blade but I wanted to see if I had irritation after a three pass shave and there was absolutely no sting what-so-ever proving my point of aggressiveness.

If the R41 is a 10 on the aggressive scale I would rate the T2 a 7.5 and the FaTip a 8 to 8.5.

So, if people are holding back on the purchase of the Sabi due to the idea that it is a super aggressive razor your fears are eased.

As a side note the handle fits both my R41 and FaTip heads which is a huge plus in my book Thumbup

Almost forget, Joe @ shaveabuck contacted me immediately and is sending me out another T2.
Seems the Sabi factory put the wrong razors in the boxes.

Hi Jeff,
No for the whole razor handle and all. I will try the Griest 360 brass handle down the road. The Sabi heads T1 through T4 are on the aggressive side as I have said before but not unbearable. I had the Sabi razor with the link you showed but sold it.

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
Shave #2 in the books with the T2.

Used my TGN 22mm Finest Badger Knot Fan XH custom brush with an Arko stick today.

Did the right side of my face with the Sabi and the left side with my FaTip Grande. Both razors used a Super Iridium blade (second use on both).

Both sides of my face were DFS after two passes but where I could "whip" through the shave on the left side of my face with the FaTip I found myself being careful with the Sabi due to the sharp edge on the comb.

If you are not correct in your shave angle with the Sabi it lets you know it immediately while the FaTip could care less...any angle worked fine with a smooth face feel throughout the shave.

Can't wait to try the Cadet OC comb on the Sabi handle next week.Hopefully it will mow down the hair like a R41 with the smoothness of the FaTip.
Fingers crossed...

RE: The Sabi's have arrived!
I just ordered a T2. I can't wait to try it. Does anyone know how it compares to a Parker 94 or 97 razor? They are quite aggressive solid bar razors.
I have a Joris. I guess it is less aggressive than a Joris.
